Getting the Most Out of 80W/cm Mercury UV Lamps
When we sat down to design the 80W/cm mercury UV lamp, we wanted to hit that sweet spot. You know the one—where you have enough raw power to get the job done, but you aren’t losing control of the process. In a modern shop, these aren’t just bulbs that get hot. They’re the heartbeat of your photopolymerization. Power and the “Sweet Spot” At 80W/cm, you’re getting a serious punch of photons. By using mercury-vapor discharge, we can hit a broad spectrum, mostly in the UVC and UVB ranges. The beauty of this is that you can cure a ton of different photoinitiators in one go. It’s great for those stubborn, thick coatings. But here’s the thing: that much power means you have to be careful. If your conveyor speed is off, you’re risking scorched substrates or over-curing. It’s all about the sync. The Nitty-Gritty Hardware We use a quartz envelope that can actually handle the pressure and the thermal shocks without cracking. We’re obsessive about the seals, too. If air leaks in, the lamp dies early. It’s that simple. Plus, if you pair these with a high-frequency ballast, the flicker disappears. Everything just runs smoother and the energy conversion feels tighter. Putting it on the Floor We made these as drop-in replacements. You shouldn’t have to tear apart your reflectors or rebuild your curing tunnels just to get these running. They just fit. One heads-up, though. These lamps put out a lot of infrared heat. If you’re working with plastics that warp easily, you’ll need a cooling system or a chilled mirror. Trust me, you don’t want to find that out the hard way. By keeping the wattage per centimeter steady, we’ve basically taken the guesswork out of the equation. You don’t have to “hope” the line speed is right—you just know it is.
